VENUS SLIPPER ORCHID POSTER
20in x 30in
Watercolor, Colored Pencil, Photoshop
This poster, depicting the Venus Slipper Orchid, was created for the University of Michigan Matthaei Botanical Gardens. They commissioned me and my scientific illustration classmates to depict certain plants within the garden that flower or bloom for only a small period of time, so that visitors could see how these beautiful plants looked in bloom, even after they withered. To ensure accuracy, I closely observed the orchid, paying attention to details, and creating many sketches. I also did external research on the Venus Slipper, looking through hundreds of photos to gain a better sense of what the stereotypical orchid would look like. Though I based my illustration primarily on the live orchid in the garden, I adjusted some elements to best represent what the average Venus Slipper Orchid would look like.
